The 2016 Big Game Battle was a true success in many ways. The offshore weather conditions were extremely challenging for many boats, with only 4–5 boats staying out overnight and fishing the canyons. One of the best outreach emails from the first day of fishing read:
“Team BGB, For those of you that didn’t make it offshore, we’re headed to Cisco to talk about how lucky the fish are that we’re not crushing them right now. Misery loves company. Please join us.”
Offshore or on land, the spirit of this special group could not be held back!
While the number of fish caught was on the low side, your generosity for JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) was off the charts, raising $340,000.00! This incredible accomplishment was made even more memorable by Lilly’s introduction at the Captain’s Meeting and the family’s presentation at the banquet, creating moments that will stay with us for years to come.

JDRF
The tournament’s partnership with JDRF raised over $340,000 toward advancing life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent, and treat type 1 diabetes (T1D). The funds help develop treatments such as artificial pancreas systems, beta cell encapsulation devices, and therapies to reduce complications and improve prevention.
From JDRF:
“Your generosity supports clinical trials, new therapies, and prevention methods while providing hope for a world without T1D. We are deeply grateful to the Big Game Battle community and the Lashar family for their dedication to this cause.”
— Amy Montalto, JDRF, New England Chapter Executive Director
